The Training and Accommodation Centre located in Pantin is the showcase of the Compagnons du Devoir's know-how, a place to welcome all kinds of people, a centre for exchanging and sharing knowledge.
La multiplicité des fonctions «dormir», «se nourrir», «étudier», «travailler», dans une même enveloppe déjà existante a été pour nous un grand défi.
Le projet a pour objectif de changer radicalement l’image du bâtiment existant en lui donnant un statut d’édifice d’intérêt public remarquable dans ce secteur industriel de la ville.
The body of the building is covered with a metal mesh: this second skin makes it possible to erase the very repetitive aspect of the existing architecture, to introduce a play of modulation in a rigid framework, and to affirm its stature.
In this way, the Maison des Compagnons, designed as a facility in the city, plays its full role as a signal: the double skin diffuses the interior light, like a "lantern" to welcome the visitor.
